Butterfly cupcakes....

Found a picture of some butterfly cupcakes that I did for a birthday party last year... butterfly theme!

I made all the butterflies and flowers out of fondant and hand painted the yellow butterflies with gel colours. I dusted edible glitter on the purple and aqua coloured butterflies and dusted the flower centres.

These were vanilla cupcakes with vanilla flavoured buttercream.

Guitar themed cake...

I haven’t done any decorating for a while so I’m really excited to be working on a special cake for my husband’s birthday next month. I thought I would get a head start with planning the cake’s design, as he loves his guitar and is a fantastic player, I’m doing a guitar themed cake. Made these little babies- very fiddly to mould and to paint by hand, however I think they look great and I am happy with the end result.

These couple are just my trial and I think they will work on the blue colour of the cake that I have in my head. Can’t wait to put it all together when the time comes !!

Baby Hootala....

I just had to make a little owl after my very talented friend Vanessa Wardell made the cutest little Owl Cake at a workshop she did recently... you can check it out at her blog along with her other amazing work, on http://inspiredbycake.blogspot.com.au/.

I call her my little Hootala, she's only small and only made out of fondant- not an entire cake... but who knows maybe one day when I have time I'll attempt the cake version.

Happy 13th Birthday Emily.....

Here it is... Tada!!! The final product of my zebra, spots, stripes and stars cake for my cousin's daughter's birthday. I'm super excited with this cake, Happy Birthday Emily! I hope you love this cake as much as I do... this is my favorite cake to date and I think it's my best work to date!

Pop-o-licious!

These turned out great.... these have just been decorated simply, but decoration would only be limited to your imagination!

Cake Pops.....

I've always loved the idea of the new craze Cake Pops.... however I'm not so fond of cake crumbs squished into dense clumps with frosting or cream cheese- TOO HEAVY!

I was lucky enough though, to come across this cake pop tin!

I must say I was skeptical, however the end product turned out fantastic! Fluffy little balls of cake!

I can't wait to decorate these once they are cool- Stay tuned for that post!! I will be definitely making these for kids parties as I think they would make a great centre piece, especially if they are wrapped individually with a nice ribbon.

Combined 50th and 21st....

When I think about it I've done a few masterpieces! I did this one for my Brother and Dad's combined 21st and 50th last year. As my brother is a pilot I did him in a plane and my dad is working on the National Broadband Network roll out so that's why he's standing on the map of Australia.

I forgot about this one!

I just came across this photo, I made this one in 2010 for my husbands birthday! He was extremely surprised. I'm still pretty pleased with this cake as it was one of my very early ones (although when I look at it now there's things I would technically do different)!

New project 13th Birthday Cake....

A cousin has asked me for my help creating her daughter's 13th Birthday cake! What a special time.... moving into the teens!! She has requested a three layered cake, all layers to be hot pink- however a different pattern on each including zebra, spots and stripes. She also request stars coming out of the top of the cake! So I have been working on some of the elements to stick on the cake including a Zebra shoe.... stay tuned for the final cake in a few days I'm excited she should love it!

Playgroup Birthday Cake.....

Oh my goodness this cake was such a rushed job! The night before, I was asked to make the decorations for our playgroup's first birthday cake. Even though it was very last minute, the cake turned out pretty fantastic all the parents loved it!

Orange Show....

I was encouraged by a lot of guild members to have a crack this year at entering some pieces into the show. I entered into the children's birthday plaque category and the cupcake category. I'm so glad I did as I took out 1st place in the plaque and 2nd place in the cupcakes!! Not a bad effort for my first time entering! My dogs and ducks were both original ideas.

The dogs were inspired by my love for the books Hairy Maclary From Donaldson's Dairy by author Lynley Dodd. The inspiration for the ducks came from my love of taking my daughter to feed them down at a local park.

First birthday....

This was a special milestone... my daughter turning one. As she was having a butterfly themed party it was only fit that the cake matched!

Little Christmas Elf...

This little Elf was taught at another demonstration held by the Cake Decorating Guild of Orange. Vanessa Wardell was the demonstrator, she comes up with some amazing things!

My little guy turned out quite cute.

Christmas Cakes....

Last year I made these cute little mini Christmas Cakes, they were 4 inches and just the right size to give as a small gift to someone. These were very popular and a lot of people I knew asked if they could purchase them, so I made them to sell to a few people. They were fruit cakes and mudcakes.

Christening cake....

I was lucky enough to be asked to make this Christening cake for a little boy. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. It was my own creation and having never made the building blocks before I was happy with them. Upon delivery everyone was amazed at the cake!

My first cake...

This is my first cake and I was pretty proud of my effort. My cousin came to visit our family and as it was her birthday weekend I surprised her! I was flattered that she said she loved the flavour. This was also my first attempt at a chocolate mudcake. Turned out better than I thought!

On fire.....

This is my cute little dragon, who is completely made out of fondant. He actually wasn't made for any specific reason other than I wanted to play around. He's still in a box I may put him on a cake one day.

Little Bo Peep

I joined the Cake Decorating Guild of Orange in 2010, which hold monthly meetings and demonstrations.
Shortly after joining I was taught how to create a plaque from a simple picture. I call her my Little Bo Peep.

My own creation...

After the cupcake day my cake decorating journey started...... I went home and decided to make a garden themed cupcake display and some cupcakes with flowers.

Welcome to Marianna's Caking Me Crazy!

Welcome to my blog! I'd like to share with you the first pieces I ever created in sugar. They were made at a cupcake day in 2010! I was so inspired I have never looked back! I learnt how to make a handbag topper, a dog face and how to create sugar flowers. For my first attempt I think they're pretty good!
